THE HORSE OF TROIE

The legend

Eris, goddess of Quarrel, has not been invited to the wedding of Pélée and Thétis. To take revenge, she throws a gold apple during the ceremony destined "to the most beautiful". All present goddesses with to make it theirs, but only three of them remain in competition : Athéna, Aphrodite and Héra. They rely on Paris, Prince of Troie, for the judgement. He chooses Aphrodite, as promised him love personified in the person of Hélène. Alas, the young woman is already married to Ménélas, King of Spartes and Paris decides to kidnap her. Immediately, Agamemnon, Ménélas's brother assembles an army to bring back Hélène to Spartes. He even sacrifices his daughter to obtain the support of gods in his fight. So begins the war of Troie.

Undertaken excavations, by Schliemann and by others, before and after him, led to the discovery of important vestiges that would tend to prove that his myth, transmitted during centuries, might have a real foundation. The most probable location of this legend or rather of its historical foundation, real or not, as nothing, at the present time, allows to prove its existence for certain - would be found in Hissarlik westward of Anatolia. The show presented by the Cirque Baroque plans to dig the past to dig the past to give it life again.

War, death, love, envy, sacrifice, desire, so much situations eminently passionate from which do not necessarily entail tragedy. Indeed, it's also an encounter between archaeologists and the History they unfold. These two temporalities give to see both the evident gap between the two periods, but also their complementarity. On one side, the Greek world with the work of the envisaged body, in its sculptural essence and, on the other, the present, a world in which the image takes a more electrical dimension through the video. Nevertheless, the show is a place where the past and the present meet, since the scientists are there to give us keys that help us to understand the legend.

However, the purpose of the show is not to explain the myth or the history, but to give it a new rhythm that is no longer based on the linear tale. It is the superposition of situations, the rupture, the abrupt returns backwards, the acceleration or the pause, that create the show's own time. The video projection is neither an accessory nor a decorative element ; It is not only integral part of the aesthetics, but even more, it wears the narration and constitutes a central element of this temporal research. It is a tape editing or, more precisely, a collage in the plastic senses of the term. It is a mosaic that is supposed to be seen in the yard of the arena which constitues the scenography.
