THE HORSE OF TROIE
The legend :
Eris, goddess of the Quarrel, has not been invited to the wedding of Pélée and Thétis. To revenge, she throws an apple of gold during the ceremony destined "to the most beautiful". All goddesses present desire to appropriate it, but three of they remain in competition : Athéna, Aphrodite and Héra. They rely on Paris, Prince of Troie, for the judgement. He chooses Aphrodite, because she has promised him the love personified in the person of Hélène. Alas, the young woman is already bride to Ménélas, King of Spartes and Paris decides to remove her. Immediately, Agamemnon, Ménélas·s brother unites an army to return Hélène to Spartes. He even sacrifices his daughter to obtain the support of gods in his fight. So began the war of Troie.
Undertaken excavations, so by Schliemann that by others - before and after him - having allowed to put out important vestiges that would tend to prove that this myth, transmitted during centuries, would have a real foundation. The most probable location of this legend or rather of its historical foundation - however it·s real, cause nothing, at the present time, allows to prove in all certainty - would be found in Hissarlik westward of Anatolie in modern Turkey. The show that presents the Baroque Circus plans to dig the past to render it life.
The war, the death, the love, the envy, the sacrifice, the desire, so much situations eminently passionate whose it does not concern inevitably to pull the tragedy. Indeed, here it·s also an encounter between archaeologists and the History that they put out. These two temporalities give to see both, the evident gap of two periods, but also their complementarity. On one side, the Greek world with the work of the envisaged body, in its sculptural essence and, on the other, the present, a world in which the image takes a more electrical dimension by means of the video. Nevertheless, the show is an encounter place between the past and the present, because the scientists are there to give us keys that help us to understand the legend.
However, the purpose of the representation is not to explain the myth or the history, but well to give it a new rhythm that is no longer based on the linear tale. It is the superposition of situations, the rupture, the abrupt returns backwards, the acceleration or the pause, that bears its own time to the show. The video projection is not an accessory, more less a decorative element ; It makes not only integral part of the aesthetics, but especially, it wears the narration and constitutes a central element of this temporal research. It concerns a tape editing or, more precisely, a collage in the plastic senses of the term. It is a mosaic that gives to see in the yard of the arena that constitutes the scenography.
"A story where the time intermingle through tasty anachronisms. With the image of this troup of archeologists in "Indiana Jones" manner fighting for their discovery, of this stray blue beret swaying in the airs, or of these juggling's clubs depicting as shell ! . On the eternal themes of the love, money and war, the numbers linked together with flexibility, accompanied in time and in live by three musicians who keep the eyes glued to the acrobats throughout the show. You are filled with wonder by dexterity of these talented artists who pass cheerfully from the juggling to aerial pole, to dance or to comedy. And a splendid number of diabolo for the final". "The whole is plentiful, goes at top speed, under attack of a percussive orchestra. The trampoline, to the heart of the set, distributes its ration of acrobates, warriors and goddesses. The numbers of stunt-flying are transformed into air choregraphies and jugglings become pitiless fight. It felt sometimes like in the silent film, imitation Rudolph Valentino, sometimes in Michaël Jackson, environment thriller, urban fight atmosphere, in the vapor of the streets and the jungle of the cities. One imperceptibly lets oneself grab by the inventiveness of the scenes, energy of the artists and the video pictures which are in background. To the final scene, air diabolos number, of an impressionnist esthetic, on the waves of a music that Eric Satie would not have disavowed".
